Former Bolivian Vice President David Choquehuanca made a public appearance on Sunday as he cast his vote in the subnational elections, where he addressed questions regarding ongoing corruption investigations involving former members of the previous administration. During his remarks, he stated that there is no evidence linking him to any wrongdoing and insisted that no corruption-related charges would be brought against him.
Choquehuanca argued that any alleged criminal offenses should be treated as individual responsibilities rather than being attributed to political movements or collective projects. In that context, he referred to the legal situation of former President Luis Arce, who remains under investigation and in pretrial detention, noting that the allegations against him stem from events that occurred before his presidency, when he served as Minister of Economy.
He also commented on the Indigenous Fund case, saying that the judicial system should operate more swiftly and independently. According to Choquehuanca, justice must be administered without favoring individuals who hold positions of power or possess greater financial resources, ensuring equality before the law.
When asked whether he feared facing legal proceedings similar to those involving other former government officials, Choquehuanca reiterated that he is not concerned about any investigation, maintaining that his actions were never connected to corrupt practices.
He was also asked about the political strains between Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz and Vice President Édman Lara, to which Choquehuanca responded that internal rifts within the executive branch weaken the nation’s governance and emphasized that every state institution ought to back the president’s administration for Bolivia’s overall well‑being.
Finally, the former vice president was questioned about the political landscape inside the Movement for Socialism (MAS), an organization that has been grappling with a profound internal crisis since the 2025 general elections. Several social groups have pointed to him as one of the figures accountable for the rifts that have undermined the party in recent years.
